Eva Gonzales, The Peonies and the Beetle, 1871-1872

Eva Gonzales was born in Paris in 1849 and after modelling for Eduard Manet she became his only student. An Impressionist painter, her preferred subject was highly finished faces with softly sketched backgrounds.
